Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by a 29 year old parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut. Today the Knights of Columbus has become the largest lay organization in the Catholic Church. There are currently more than 1.6 million members in 12,000 councils.

Knights of Columbus are Catholic gentlemen committed to the exemplification of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

Membership is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See that are at least 18 years old. A practical Catholic is one who lives up to the commandments of God and the precepts of the Church.

Here in Newcastle, our council’s focus is on our Parish. As Knights we strive to do what we can to support our Parish Priest and in turn the best interests of the parish as a whole. We also support both of our schools and other organizations such as Respect Life. See us helping out around the church click here.
