Wednesday evening, December 10th, saw thirty members gather for their annual
Christmas get-together.
The evening began with the celebration of the Eucharist in the church and then
members moved down to the hall to enjoy refreshments, entertainment and
fellowship.
Karen Wilson led us in the league prayer and reflection.
Three of our members, Kathy Mercz, Pat Kidd and Mary-Kay Wilks were awarded the
CWL Maple Leaf Service pin for their outstanding commitment and service to the
League and our council. Marg McSweeney received her Ten Year Service pin and
Donna-Lee Babalow and Rosea Lonsdale received their C.W.L. Insignia pin.
After their practice, the Youth Choir paid a surprise visit and beautifully sang
“Silent Night” for us which coincided with Pauline Patterson’s narration of how
this beautiful Christmas carol originated in Germany and spread throughout the
Christian world. Next on the agenda was the portrayal of the
Angel Gabriel by Pat Chidley and the account of the angel’s visit to the
Virgin Mary and last, but not least, was a beautiful Christmas poem written by
our own member, Maureen Taylor, and read by Betty Formosa. A Christmas
sing-a-long was then enjoyed by all.
“On Sunday, November 9th, the C.W.L. held its Annual Membership Brunch with
approximately 40 people in attendance which included our Diocesan President,
Virginia Lynch. A wonderful brunch was served by members of our Knights of
Columbus. Our gathering opened by praying the League prayer followed by a
spiritual reflection on Faith, Hope, Love and Peace presented by Karen Wilson.
Our guest speakers were Maureen and Allyn Gunter who have recently returned from
Zambia as part of a nine member group from Development and Peace. They
explained, with the help of a slide show, how monies collected for Development
and Peace are used. Zambia is an African country of 12,000,000 people with a
life expectancy of 37 years and is the 13th poorest country in the world. In
Zambia D. & P. is in partnership with six other agencies who all work on
different projects to better the lives of the people.
A brief meeting followed in which three of our members were awarded certificates
from our Diocesan President and various members were awarded membership pins.”
Whether you are married, single, young or old, have children or grandchildren,
or just moved into the district, the Catholic Women's League has something to
offer.
Founded in 1906 by Margaret Fletcher, the motto 'Charity
- Work - Loyalty' is as relevant now as it was 90 years ago. The league
aims to unite Catholic women in a bond of common fellowship, educational and
social welfare issues, both for civilian and armed forces and represents women's
interests on national and international bodies.
The Catholic Women's League of Canada was organized nationally in 1920. Our
Parish Council, 1978-2008, is proud to be celebrating
30 years of service
to our community.
Regular meetings of the Catholic Women’s League is the second
Thursday of each month beginning in September. All women over the age of 16 are invited to attend. Spiritual Reflection starts at 7 p.m. and the meeting at 7.30 p.m. In Our Lady of Peace meeting room.

The 7 Ups
Wake Up!! Decide to have a good day. 'This is the day the
Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalms 118:24
Dress Up!! The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A
smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. "The Lord does not
look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance, but the
Lord looks at the heart." I Samuel 16:7
Shut Up!! Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us
two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much
listening as talking. "He who guards his lips guards his
soul." Proverbs 13:3
Stand Up!!... for what you believe in. Stand for something
or you will fall for anything. "Let us not be weary in doing good; for
at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore,
as we have opportunity, let us do good..." Galatians 6:9-10
Look Up!!... to the Lord. "I can do everything through
Christ who strengthens me". Philippians 4:13
Reach Up!!... for something higher. Trust in the Lord with
all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways,
acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path." Proverbs 3:5-6
Lift Up!! ... your Prayers. "Do not worry about
anything; instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING." Philippians 4:6
